I’m feminist since I believe women deserve equal treatment to men.

Women aren’t paid less than men. Only problem I found with the reply

Women ARE paid less than men, and yes I saw your other reply to this post saying “BUT THE EQUAL PAY ACT!!” with a whole bunch of links about it.

Hate to burst your bubble, but although it’s law, its not followed, and because you mentioned it - I know you’re American - so here you go with some facts pertaining to America.

On average, full-time working women earn just 77 cents for every dollar a man earns. (Source: The White House)

And in some states it’s actually worse. Louisiana, the worst state in the country for pay equity, women are paid just 66 percent of what men were paid. (x)

Within some minority groups, the wage gap is even worse: African-American women earn 69 cents for every dollar paid to African-American men, and Latinas earn just 58 cents on the dollar compared to Latino men. The disparity grows wider when these women are compared to non-Hispanic white men. (x)

“But its because they need more education!“ you say.

At every level of academic achievement, women’s median earnings are less than men’s earnings, and in some cases, the gender pay gap is larger at higher levels of education. While education helps everyone, black and Hispanic women earn less than their white and Asian peers do, even when they have the same educational credentials as their fellow man. (x)

The gender wage gap can be attributed to several factors: Women make up a majority of workers in the 10 most common jobs that pay less than $10.10 an hour, and they tend to be under-represented in high-earning fields. Bloomberg Businessweek reported in 2012 that the only occupation in which women out-earn men is personal care and service work, including butlers, valets, shoe shiners and house sitters.

But studies show women are paid less even when they are in the same job and have the same experience as their male counterparts. They found that after controlling for occupation, college major, hours worked, employment sector and other factors related to a person’s pay, the gender wage gap shrunk but did not entirely disappear. “About one-third of the gap cannot be explained by any of the factors commonly understood to affect earnings, indicating that other factors that are more difficult to identify – and likely more difficult to measure – contribute to the pay gap,” that report said.

The U.N. (y’know the United Nations) released an official report explaining and showing that women earn 24% less than men on average.

Want to know what else is in that report?

“Women do nearly 2½ times more unpaid and domestic work compared with men and are less likely to receive a pension. Only half of working-age women are in the workforce compared to three-fourths of working-age men.“

So not only do they earn considerably less over their life time, they also receive no pension at the end of their working career.
